Design Principles

Understanding the Why and the Who lead into this phase, in which the aim is to agree on key values, needs and drivers. The principles will guide the process throughout the project.

You will need: Research on user and service climate, a Design Principle Matrix template, pens


  1. Choose the service for which the design principles are created for

  2. Work on the template as a group

  3. Fill in the design principle matrix. This can also be done on a flip chart or whiteboard

  4. Discuss the points of intersection; capture comments on post-it notes on the matrix

  5. Write down descriptive ‘principles’ and have them visible for everyone during work

The principles should remain visible throughout the project.
