How we work

Model 1: From Leading to Consulting

In this operating model we take ideas for projects from immigrants, a Migri unit or Migri’s stakeholders and try to make them happen.

Model 2: Participating

In this operating model, the projects are initiated and led by other colleagues in Migri. Inland designers are asked to take part in these projects to bring its service design expertise.

Model 3: Consulting

In these projects we are consultants. This means that we never become full members of the project team, but support the team in key moments of the development of the project.

Model 4: Building Space for Collaboration

In this model Inland acts as a connector bringing opportunities for collaboration to different groups such as: universities, NGOs, other public agencies or different teams in Migri.

We always begin by identifying people’s needs

Think of these tools as a guide to unleashing your creativity, putting the people you serve at the center of your design process to come up with solutions. Work with an open mindset, ideate, experiment and test.

Innovation Matrix

This tool helps to understand how project work in a team, contribute to different types of innovation. This matrix proposes the notions of core, adjacent and transformation, to better map project work. We tweak this matrix for the use of our team and find it useful.

Envisioning Canvas

This canvas is a collaborative tool to create a vision based on an idea. We use this canvas in group interviews and future workshops. We have iterate this canvas several times and we think that it is now a useful tool.

Roadmap – Tiekartta

This canvas helps to identify goals, steps, participants, tools and risks in the different moments of the development of a future project. We have used this canvas in many workshops where the idea is to start planning future work in relation to one project.

Comparison Matrix – Vertailutaulukko

This matrix has been used in a workshop with representatives of different units in order to compare how do we do client research and user studies in the organisation. It is useful to map a) the goal of the study, b) people involved, c) method, d)process and e)users or clients involved. Doing a comparison is one way of exploring and understanding our work.

Defining Problem Canvas – Ongelmanmääritys kanvas

This canvas has been used to articulate ideas and start defining a new concept. The canvas has been translated by us, but it is a copy of the Defining problem canvas presented in the book The Service Innovation Handbook: Action-oriented Creative Thinking Toolkit for Service Organizations written by Lucy Kimbell.
